Hispanic Heritage Month

Consolidated Credit Celebrates Achievements of Hispanics in Financial Education

[Fort Lauderdale, FL.] September 27, 2013 – The U.S. Census says the Hispanic population in this country surged by more than a million last year, making it the second-largest ethnic group after non-Hispanic whites. Unfortunately, something else is surging, too – the debt those 53 million Hispanics have racked up.

Now that Hispanics represent 17 percent of the U.S. population, they suffer from some of the same problems as other groups. But they lack solid consumer information in Spanish. Financial organizations need to start initiatives to work with the Hispanic community to teach them how to manage their debt and credit history successfully. Consolidated Credit is doing just that.

Financial Education as the Axis of a Successful Celebration

It is important for members of the Hispanic community, who make up 17 percent of the total US population, to increase their level of education when it comes to credit and finances in general, especially first-generation Americans. While education about student loans, scholarships, grants and other federal financial assistance is valuable Hispanic-Americans need to also be knowledgeable about how the credit industry works in the United States. Building a strong credit history is one key to success when it comes to effective and intelligent management of the money.

Many Hispanics want to consume information and conduct their business in Spanish and as a call to action, Consolidated Credit has developed a website and a suite of financial tools dedicated to the community in their native language. The educational tools help people understand personal finances so they can make the best decisions towards financial health and the natural accumulation of savings.

Many Organizations Contribute to this Celebration

There are many organizations actively involved in the Hispanic Heritagecelebration, of which we can name, among them, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (visit website) and the National Council for La Raza (NCLR). Consolidated Credit adheres to this annual Celebration, maintaining its promise to the Hispanic community to promote financial education which has had the effect of helping people enjoy healthy personal finances, providing the way to achieve it through the use of financial tools, articles, informational brochures and videos.

About the Hispanic Heritage Month: The annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage began in 1963; however, the initial celebration lasted only for only one week. The actual month-long celebration from September 15th to October 15th, began in 1988, after Law 100-42 was passed by Congress in August of that same year, supported by President Ronald Reagan. The date chosen for the month long celebration marks the anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
