Save money on your July Fourth festivities

July Fourth weekend is great time to celebrate America with your friends and family, but throwing a cookout or party can be stressful if you have a lot of credit card debt

If you are worried about how your July Fourth get-together will impact your finances, it would be wise to seek ways you can save money on your celebrations.

Buy food in bulk

Those who are planning on hosting a large celebration with family and friends could benefit from buying their food in bulk. Keeping it simple with hamburgers and hot dogs is the most affordable option, which can be purchased in bulk at any number of discount warehouse stores, such as Sam's Club or Costco, according to U.S. News & World Report. These stores often put together cheese and vegetable trays as well, but you might want to consider creating your own to save yourself some money.

Purchase a keg, or make it BYOB

Alcohol can be one of the most expensive costs on the Fourth, but there are ways to reduce this expense. One way is to buy a pony keg, which is typically good for 80 12-ounce glasses of beer. This option is usually much cheaper than buying 80 12-ounce cans of beer.

If you don't want to have to spend any more on alcohol, you should consider making your cookout BYOB. In all likelihood, your guests will have no issue bringing their own alcohol, as it means they are able to bring their favorite beer or wine.

Don't buy your own fireworks

On the Fourth, you might be tempted to buy your own fireworks, but this can get costly, Money Crasher noted. Instead, you should do some research and find a free fireworks show in your area. Oftentimes, these are preceded by carnivals or fairs that can provide entertainment for your kids.

Use mobile applications to save on gas

If you are someone who isn't hosting a get-together, travel costs could be a concern. One of the best ways to save on gas is to utilize your smartphone and download an app, such as GasBuddy. This mobile application allows you to enter your ZIP code and find the cheapest gas in your area. If you are traveling long distance this can be a major help to save money.
