Like many would-be actors, Miata studied hard and headed to Hollywood with a dream.
“I thought I was gonna go to Los Angeles and be discovered and hit it rich” she says.
She was half right. The New York native was discovered and appeared in a movie, a miniseries, and a TV show. None were hits, however, and she didn’t get rich. Quite the opposite, in fact.
“I received some of the best training I possibly have hoped for when it came to my craft as an actor,” Miata says. “But when it came to money, not even the littlest bit of preparation at all.”
Paying for acting classes – including a conservatory in London – and just living day-to-day between acting jobs eventually left Miata $80,000 in debt.
“It wasn’t that I was buying shoes or cars or vacations,” Miata says. But she thought other people would judge her for benign a spendthrift if she admitted she needed help.
“I felt an enormous amount of shame,” she says, “and an enormous amount of fear.”
Calling Consolidated Credit
Miata scoured the internet looking for debt solutions. Like many people, she was overwhelmed. But when she found Consolidated Credit, it clicked.
After her free debt analysis, Miata says, “My credit card that was 29.99% interest dropped to like 9.99%.” Making one monthly payment was also a relief, as was having a financial expert only a phone call away.
“A big, big thank you to Consolidated Credit for really helping me through a tough, tough time,” she says.
After Consolidated Credit
Miata wasn’t satisfied recovering from $80,000 in credit card debt. She wanted to help others like her do the same. So she founded Abundance Bound, which offers free educational resources geared for a specific audience: “I believe that financial education is important for everybody, but particularly for what I call non-traditional earners.” Like actors.
Through Abundance Bound, Miata’s acting career has morphed into teaching actors. She’s given workshops for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Writers Guild of America, and the Screen Actors Guild.
And not just actors. Miata helps anyone who doesn’t earn a regular paycheck.
“There are a lot of people like me,” she says. “I know there are a lot of people just like me.”
