Consolidated Credit’s annual holiday food and toy drives require teams of employees to unload hundreds of pounds of food, and large boxes of toy donations.
December 15, 2023 – The holiday season has been a busy time for Consolidated Credit and its employees. For the second year in a row, Consolidated Credit drove a truckload of toys to SOS Children’s Village in Coconut Creek, where 50 vulnerable, abandoned, or orphaned children get long-term care and education. Employees unloaded a half-dozen large boxes of toys ranging from Barbie dolls to board games.
“We’ve hosted our holiday toy drive for more years than I can remember,” says April Lewis-Parks, who has worked for two decades at Consolidated Credit as Director of Education and Corporate Communications. “SOS Children’s Village was worth revisiting because the work they do is so focused, and the staff and foster parents are so dedicated. These are children who literally have nothing, so a simple toy goes a long way.”
SOS Children’s Village has quickly become a charity that Consolidated Credit admires; LifeNet4Families has been one of Parks’ favorite nonprofits for many years. Operating out of a small, plain building in northern Broward County, LifeNet4Families’ small staff provides more than 100,000 meals a year through its Community Cafe and Mobile Food Pantry
Consolidated Credit’s annual food drive brought more than a pallet of staples that included dried pasta, canned vegetables, cereal boxes, and even some guilty pleasures such as pastries and snack cakes. Just over 100 Consolidated employees donated 900 pounds of food.
“We work with LifeNet4Families year-round, because they embody the same work ethic Consolidated Credit does,” Parks says. “Both nonprofits surprise a lot of people with how much they accomplish with a small, tight-knit staff that sticks around for years. LifeNet4Families isn’t so much our designated charity as our partner in helping people.”
