She Did Everything Right. So How Did it Go So Wrong?

Breanna cooked the food at her wedding to save money and then took in a tenant. Yet she still needed Consolidated Credit.

Breanna’s wedding ring cost $30. “I got it off Amazon,” she says.

There was no cake and no caterer.

“We went with cupcakes instead of a wedding cake,” says the Mississippi native. “That was the only food we purchased. I cooked all the rest. I made gumbo cheesy chicken over rice, corn, and green beans.”

After the wedding, she and her husband saved even more money by taking in a tenant. Unfortunately, that tenant didn’t pay the rent.

Tragedy strikes…

“It was not too long after we got married that I was diagnosed with a brain tumor,” Breanna says. While there’s never a good time for a tumor, this moment was particularly costly. Both she and her husband wanted to go to college to land more lucrative careers, but to save money, they went one at a time – so one could work while the other studied.

Breanna’s husband had just graduated, and she had just started.

“I was also working at Best Buy and I had a few hours at Subway,” she says. “As I started going through treatment,  I just couldn’t do it all.”

Even worse, her husband had to cut back at work so he could take care of Breanna during her treatment. That meant running up their credit cards.

Consolidated helps…

At that point, the thrifty Breanna knew she needed help.

“It’s not that we can’t pay, we were just getting eaten alive as far as interest rates,” she recalls. She said she would make a $300 payment but only about $10.00 would go to the actual principal; the rest would go straight to the interest.

So, Breanna started searching for solutions…

“I tried to do my research, and I looked at reviews and different things,” she says. That led her to Consolidated Credit. At first, she was uncomfortable.

“I don’t want to say it sounded too good to be true,” she says with a laugh. The truth shocked her. Her payments dropped from $700 to $400 a month.
